The First and Only Truly Biodegradable VCI PE Film
April 2025
For Immediate Release
Alsip, IL – Daubert Cromwell, a leading global manufacturer of Volatile Corrosion Inhibitor (VCI) packaging solutions, has launched an innovative line of biodegradable VCI poly films—the first and only VCI films in the world to feature this groundbreaking biodegradable technology.

Daubert VCI Films with BioNatur® are the only polyethylene VCI films that are both 100% landfill biodegradable and 100% recyclable; a fact that makes Daubert VCI Films unique and truly groundbreaking. Users can be confident they are doing the right thing for the environment, whether the used films or bags are sent to a landfill or sent for recycling. If they are sent to a landfill the film rapidly biodegrades into water, soil and gases within a few years, without generating harmful chemicals or microplastics. Or they can be recycled with any other polyethylene-based products, without the need for segregation or separation. Daubert VCI Films with BioNatur are designed for real-world disposal scenarios. They will biodegrade in a municipal landfill and do not need to be sent to a compost facility, or they can be recycled, with no restrictions.
Global Availability for Companies Seeking to Meet Sustainability Goals
Daubert VCI Films with BioNatur are available worldwide. They offer a cost-effective, sustainable alternative, providing ease of use regardless of the chosen disposal method. The films are readily available and can replace traditional VCI poly films and bags in a seamless transition with options for all VCI film chemistries.
Wherever the needs for corrosion prevention and sustainability intersect, Daubert Cromwell delivers solutions. “Our new biodegradable VCI films help companies achieve sustainability targets for a low environmental impact and recyclability – all without sacrificing quality or VCI performance. We’re very proud to be able to introduce this innovative product that is right for the environment and advances the protective packaging industry,” stated Martin Simpson, President & CEO of Daubert Cromwell. “Daubert VCI films with BioNatur Plastics do it all!”
Environmentally Safe and Effective Biodegradation The incorporation of proprietary additives, developed by BioNatur Plastics, allows the polyethylene in Daubert’s VCI films to become a digestible food source for microbes and bacteria that thrive exclusively in anaerobic landfill conditions. Once deprived of oxygen and exposed to anaerobic bacteria, the films biodegrade in only a few years, versus conventional polyethylene-based films that may never disappear. This also means that Daubert Cromwell’s biodegradable films will not break down while in storage or worse, – while in use, as so many traditional biodegradable or compostable plastics do.
Daubert VCI Films with BioNatur biodegrade without producing harmful microplastics—a key difference over other so-called “biodegradable” films, such as oxo-degradable. Unlike oxo-degradable plastics, which rely on pro-oxidant additives to accelerate fragmentation without fully biodegrading, BioNatur-based films biodegrade completely, preventing microplastic pollution and reducing environmental and health risks.
Daubert’s BioNatur films do not require specialty polymers or controlled composting environments. They maintain their structural integrity until they reach a landfill, where they naturally biodegrade, offering a more sustainable solution for the environment.
Testing has confirmed that Daubert VCI films with BioNatur retain the same corrosion inhibitor capabilities as their non-biodegradable counterparts. “Side-by-side testing of our VCI films with and without the BioNatur additive showed identical physical strength and corrosion inhibition,” explained Dr. Jonathan Brekan, Vice President of Technology at Daubert Cromwell.
Leading Daubert Cromwell VCI film brands Premium Metal-Guard® and Clear Pak®, each with their unique chemistry and benefits, are now available with BioNatur. The films are designed to biodegrade in landfills into soil, water, and gases while maintaining the superior corrosion protection that manufacturers rely on. This innovation helps companies to align with sustainability initiatives without compromising product performance.
Biodegradable Even When Using Recycled Materials
Recycled options, such as Premium Metal-Guard RC, and Clear Pak RC, which contain a min. of >30% recycled material, can also be made biodegradable. These offer an alternative for those prioritizing recycling – so when the plastic finally does go to the landfill, it will biodegrade in 8 to 12 years.
